Monsoon

Today’s entry title is from the Tokio Hotel song of the same name.

Whoever said that summer was supposed to be sunny? Lately, all we’ve had is rain. Luckily, it’s supposed to be sunny for the 4th of July. On that date, everyone can go see the Oneonta Tigers game for free, provided you bring a canned good to donate. I think it’s a pretty fair trade off. In fact, despite my reclusive ways, you may even see me there!

July 4 also means fireworks, those amazing displays of light which are all too temporary. If you want to preserve the sights in a photograph, here are some tips on photographing fireworks, courtesy of Wired magazine: How To Photograph Fireworks

Perhaps it’s useful, especially now, to ruminate on what it means to be an American. Of course, many historians know that July 4th was not the date where the United States all-of-the-sudden declared independence and had the Continental Congress affix their names all at once. Some signers didn’t get around to it until months afterward! Yet it is more convenient to set aside one day for celebrations, rather than stretching out the holiday.

Just think how brave our founding fathers must have been! They stood up to Britain, who was at the time a major power, and worked out their differences, largely, to become one unit. Democracy was not a new idea, as some countries had them up and running long before Thomas Jefferson ever set quill to paper, but it’s still amazing that these fellows had the courage, the knowledge, the skills, and the luck to accomplish their goals.

I hope this blog entry finds you all well, dear readers. I’ve not got anything else to say. My summer features a totally open schedule, and that’s a luxury I believe I should have. Ah, how wonderful it is to relax!

Later days,
Nico
