Lucky
Away with you, finals week! You’ve caused me stress and work aplenty already. Every semester, it seems to be harder to get through. Not in terms of workload or difficulty of work, but in terms of mustering up the necessary energy. Finals seem to stress out everyone on campus. I’m lucky to have a pretty good batch of professors this term, so I know that any work that takes me hours to do will take them at least as long to grade and critique.
My prior entry concerning Oneonta’s mayoral race got a bit of attention. Of the comments that were spawned from my entry, only one made it past the moderator. That one, in case you’re too busy to read it, was a pro-Corrigan post. Although I’m not backing any candidate yet, I have to say that, out of the four candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring, only Mr. Corrigan has a presence on the Internet, thanks to his Blogspot and his Facebook. I’m looking forward to hearing more about this mayoral race in the coming months.
And no, despite the pleas of my significant other and my professors, I will not run. I love Oneonta, but I also love Hartwick, and my duties as Senate VP will take up a lot of time. Maybe another time, yeah?
Now, raise your hand if you’re excited for summer. I know I am! Finally, I could get a chance to read for fun again! Finally, a chance to once again play video games! Maybe even a vacation! And of course, summer at the movies means big action movies. However, if you’re not all that impressed enough with what’s at the cinema to part with your eight dollars plus candy, soda, and earplugs to block that crying kid in front of you, you could rent a movie. How timely, for my 5 favorite movies are listed below!
- Do The Right Thing 1989, dir. Spike Lee-Race relations in a community on a person-to-person level. A movie with more defining moments, more insight, and more profanity I do not know.
- Collateral 2004, dir. Michael Mann-Two conflicting men with conflicting philosophies.
- Dogma 1998, dir. Kevin Smith-Don’t take this comedy, or yourself, very seriously. The concept of Heaven as a place where everyone knew everyone else’s gossip intrigued me.
- Blazing Saddles1974, dir. Mel Brooks-COmedy is hard to do. Brooks, Little, Wilder, Korman, Kahn, and the rest make it look easy.
- The Lives of Others2006, dir. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck-The three main characters have incredible personal journeys. You feel bad for nearly everyone.
Later days,
Nico
