Free Comic Book Day

Today, TGIF! Tomorrow, FCBD!

What’s FCBD, you ask? It’s Free Comic Book Day! FCBD occurs on the first Saturday in May, and it celebrates local independent comic book stores. I’ve long dreamed of owning my own comic book store, but let’s be honest, over 90% of small businesses fail within their first year. Anyway, on Free Comic Book Day, you can go to your local independent comic book store and pick up a free comic book. A lot of times, the writers, artists, and other members of a book’s creative team will make these issues special issues, and some of the larger independent stores will have visits by some of the famous writers and artists!

I have very fond memories of past year’s FCBD celebrations. I only hope that tomorrow is as good as it has been. A good way to relax momentarily from the stresses of a rapidly-ending school year.
