The problem in front of us…
I was watching a movie (a rather girly one I’ll admit
) with a friend the other night that got me to think a lot about myself and those around me.
“Calling somebody else fat won’t make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn’t make you any smarter. And ruining someone’s life definitely doesn’t make you any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you.” (guess that movie!)
I think everyone can relate to having said something of that nature about someone. I hear students make outlandish comments about professors, their friends, enemies, etc. I know I have said comments before about professors, but the truth of the matter is it will not help me learn the material any better.
This can even be seen in politics with the upcoming elections. Barack Obama’s campaign has taken stabs against Hillary Clinton and her husband. Engaging in the politics of personal destruction will not strengthen your campaign nor make your views appear any better. Pointing out the flaws in in another’s plan doesn’t make your plan any better.
Anyway...I hope I left you with a little food for thought, so that next time when you “let off steam,” you can do so appropriately.
Until next time,
Joe
