Happy Chanukah!
Some of you may not know that tonight is the first night of Chanukah (or Hanukkah, if you prefer)...well, it is. I was worried about celebrating Chanukah by myself for the first time (usually it overlaps with our winter break, so I get to spend at least part of it with my dad), but there was really no need. I got a package today from my dad with all the essentials - a really nice new menorah, my favorite Chanukah candles, a yarmulke for my boyfriend, a dreidel, gelt, and other fun Chanukah stuff. I lit the candles and said the blessings, and then I made latkes (potato pancakes). I never had a recipe for latkes, so they’re a little bit different every year, but they’re always delicious. I like mine with grape jelly, though most people prefer sour cream or applesauce. I’m just enjoying the warm holiday feeling of it all.
If you’d like to know more about Chanukah, this site has the history, customs, prayers, and even a latke recipe!
