Immerse Yourself!
Hi everyone!
I hope that you’re all enjoying this really really nice weather we’ve been bestowed with lately. Yesterday was absolutely wonderful and in case anyone didn’t know what was going on on Frisbee Field, there was an “Immerse Yourself” with Wilderness skills and learning about Native American culture courtesy of the Yager Museum and Hawk Circle.
On Frisbee field there was jewelry-making and it involved taking a stone from a riverbed and creating a hole in it by rubbing a stick with an arrowhead-type rock at the end. Also, there was ropemaking from milkweed, which looked like fun. There was also drummaking, which I did and was a lot of fun but it took a lot of time. First, I had to soak the deer hide in water. Believe me, it took a lot of time to make one and my hands still kind of hurt today. Then I had to cut the hide in thin quarter-inch slivers so in the end I had about 6-9 feet worth that stretched from the tent to the sidewalk by Yager. Then you had to twist the entire thing until it looked round like a rope and then use that to put that through the drum head and over the frame of the drum. When you’re done with that, you had to tighten everything so it stretched the drum head and when you’re done you hang it to dry for about 1-3 days. There was also a demonstration on how to make syrup as well as demonstrating how to start a fire.
Inside the museum there was beaded jewelry-making which was a good option because it was in the museum and it was cooler inside than it was outside. For lunch, there was an array of foods made with Native American ingredients like: turkey chili, corn muffins, sunflower bread, pumpkin soup and apple cider (hot or cold).
Overall it was a great way to spend a Saturday morning and afternoon and you were able to meet some pretty cool people. I hope you got a chance to go.
Well, try to stay cool!

It’s Crunch Time!
Hey everyone!
I hope these last few weeks have been going well. I can honestly say that they have been so busy for me! Who knew putting together an academic journal was so much work! Seriously…
Well there are a lot of things coming up in these few weeks so let me give you a brief glimpse:
April 8: Student Senate Debates
April 10-12: Student Senate Elections
April 11: Housing Selection
April 16: Course Registration
April 21: Dean’s List Reception
May 6: Sophomore BBQ
May 8: Junior Pig Roast
May 10: Senior Banquet
May 22: Senior Fling
That’s just a brief run-down of the things I’m involved in or doing this and next month.
SPEAKING OF STUDENT SENATE ELECTIONS…
They have been wicked fierce, in my opinion. Tearing down of posters, angry comments/posts on Facebook...it’s like a real campaign.
In some ways it is...You have Kimberly Post, a rising sophomore running for President, who parallels Obama as the candidate for change. Then you have Joanna Rudy running for VP, who has experience, like Hillary Clinton.
I’m not really sure what Nick Forst would be...He has experience too...hmm...I’ll have to think about which candidate he is...I think he’d be like Mike Bloomberg or John Corzine in terms of politicians.
But at any rate, the elections are coming up and EVERYONE SHOULD VOTE!!!!
Please vote. If it’s one thing I don’t like, it’s student apathy. If the person you don’t want to win the presidency wins but you and your friends don’t vote, then don’t complain. We’re in a good spot right now because our debt’s been forgiven and we’re essentially starting with a clean slate.
So everyone needs to vote! Vote in the Commons or online April 10-12!!
Vote Vote Vote!
Have a great week!

Where Did All The Doctors Go?
Hello everyone!
It is Spring Break and I am here in Rochester with Nico and mummy while Nico has his surgery. Right now we are waiting for his x-ray to come, which will determine whether or not his chest tube will come out. Chest tube you say? Well, when he had his new pacing unit put in, the doctors placed a chest tube in him for drainage purposes, since they inserted the unit in his chest. But now, since we are all itching to go home, we are lighting fires under the doctors so we can go home tomorrow.
Nico has returned to his normal self, nothing has changed about him. Nope, even his sarcasm still exists (sorry, the doctors couldn’t change that). He is quietly playing Mario Party DS on his Nintendo DS. I highly recommend that game to everyone. It is so nice and fun to play with up to three other people and it’s Mario Party...I mean seriously, need I say more?
While I have been up here in Rochester, I have been documenting Nico’s surgery. It is for my photography II: Processes class. For my project, I decided to document Nico’s life and surgeries as he lives with CCHS. At first, I wasn’t sure I could even photograph in the hospital, since I welcomed with some questionable stares, but then I remembered my photography teacher saying that if I wanted to be a photojournalist I would have to get over my fear of invading people’s spaces and just get the shots. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Some doctors have been nice about it, some even posed. Others just kind of stared at me.
Oh well, Nico’s x-ray team is here. They’re going to check and see if there’s any buildup in his chest, maybe some signs of pneumonia and if everything looks wonderful, tubes and IV will be coming out!
Hope your spring break is going well!
